How Do I Know if Family Therapy is Right for my Family?

Every family has conflict and misunderstandings here and there. But, if you’re feeling that yours  may be having conflict more often than not and that it’s starting to affect your dynamic and feelings towards each other as a group, it might be time to look into family therapy. Today we’re talking about what family therapy is, and how to know if it might be the right choice for you and your family.

What is Family Therapy?

As the name implies, family therapy is a practice that involves working with families to improve communication, conflict resolution, and address issues affecting the family members individually and as a whole which thus affects the whole family unit. Family therapy typically involves:

  • Focusing on Relationships: Concentrating on how family members interact with each other and improve relationships and strengthen the family as a whole.

  • Identifying Patterns: Help identify unhealthy patterns of  behavior and communication within the family. Understanding them helps families to change them.

  • Conflict Resolution: Helps family members understand each other's perspectives and find constructive ways to resolve conflict.

  • Support for Individual and Collective Issues

  • Therapeutic Techniques: like roleplaying, communication exercises, and exploring family dynamics
